The Canvas to-do list tells you what's due.
It never tells you what matters.

Twelve tabs, no order

A 5-point discussion post sits right next to the midterm. Everything looks equally urgent, so nothing does.

Grades hide the stakes

The assignment that could move your grade two letters looks identical to busywork. You can't see leverage.

Starting is the hard part

You know you should study. Opening the doc, finding your notes, and beginning is where it falls apart.

What it does

One panel inside Canvas. Everything pointed in the right direction.

Studying as a treasure hunt

Turn every task into a mini-game: carry the compass, dig up treasure chests hidden in your coursework, earn dubloons and streaks. Momentum, not willpower — Clipper celebrates every win.

Meet Clipper

Your parrot study buddy. Ask him a study question and he'll dig through your notes for the answer, cheer your streaks, hand out crackers when you study, and keep you company when deadlines stack up. Tune him from quiet to chatty.

Smart prioritization

Every assignment is scored by due date, point weight, and your current grade in the course — so the top of the list is always the single most worthwhile thing to do next.

Notes that find you

Import notes, PDFs, and slides once. The right chapter surfaces automatically on the Canvas page you're looking at.

Quiz me & pre-grade

Generate quick self-tests from your own material, and get a red/yellow/green read on a draft before you submit.

OCR for handwriting

Snap or import handwritten notes and scanned pages — Course Compass reads them into searchable, studiable text.

Focus timer with payoff

An assignment-aware study timer that detects what you're working on and pays out dubloons when you finish a real session.

Synced across devices

Library at home, Chromebook in class. Your settings and streak follow you; your notes stay private to you.

The game economy

Studying earns real rewards.

Dubloons

Earn one every time you complete a task, study your notes, or keep a daily streak alive.

Treasure Chests

Hidden in your coursework — find them while studying to unlock bonus rewards and jackpots.

Cosmetics Shop

Spend dubloons on purse skins and Clipper accessories — eyepatches, captain's hats, crowns, and more. Clipper's wardrobe awaits.

Loot Boxes

Fifty dubloons unlocks a case-opening animation — items scroll past and decelerate until your prize lands. Every reveal is an unowned cosmetic.

Why we built it

We stopped guessing first.

We built the tool we wish we had.

Questions

The short answers.

Do you see my Canvas password?

No. Course Compass reads your assignments using your existing, already-logged-in Canvas session — your password never enters the picture. If a school's Canvas setup ever needs it, you can optionally add a read-only Canvas access token in Settings instead; either way, nothing is sent to our servers.

Is this affiliated with Canvas or Instructure?

No. Charted Edu Tech is an independent company. "Canvas" is the learning platform our tool helps you navigate; Course Compass is not endorsed by or affiliated with Instructure, Inc.

Where do my notes and files live?

Your notes, PDFs, and the search index stay on your device by default. On paid plans you can opt in to cloud backup so your library follows you between computers — email [email protected] anytime for a full export of what's backed up, or to have it deleted.

Can my professor or school see that I'm using Course Compass?

No. Course Compass is a read-only extension that operates on your device. It reads assignment data from Canvas pages you already have open — it doesn't send requests to Canvas on your behalf, doesn't create any records visible to Canvas admins, and leaves no footprint on your school's servers. Your professor and school have no way to see it's installed.

What do I get on the free plan?

Smart prioritization, all the treasure-hunt study games, dubloons and streaks, the focus timer, and your local notes library — free forever. You also get a small one-time taste of the AI features so you can feel them before deciding to upgrade.

Will it slow down my Chromebook?

It's built for school hardware. The heavy AI work (OCR, PDF reading) runs on our servers on paid plans, and the on-page ranking is instant and local.

Can I cancel?

Anytime, no questions asked — email [email protected] and we'll cancel it right away. Billing is handled by our merchant of record (Paddle); a self-serve billing portal is on the way. Your data stays exportable whether you stay free or paid.

Does it work with all Canvas schools?

Course Compass works with any school using the Canvas LMS by Instructure — which is the majority of US higher-ed and many K-12 districts. The welcome screen auto-detects your Canvas URL from open tabs, so setup is usually just one click. It does not work with Blackboard, Moodle, or other LMS platforms.

Who is Clipper?

Clipper is your study parrot — a mascot who lives in the extension and keeps you company while you work. Clipper hands out crackers when you read your notes, cheers streaks, and can be tuned from quiet to chatty in settings. The name is a nod to Clippy, the original misunderstood assistant. We think we can do better.

What browsers does it work with?

Course Compass is a Chrome extension, so it works in any Chromium-based browser: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Brave. Firefox and Safari are not supported — Chrome extensions use a different format. Most school Chromebooks run Chrome, so that covers the majority of students.

How long does setup take?

Under two minutes. Install the extension, open the welcome screen — it scans your open tabs to find your Canvas URL, so you usually don't have to type anything. No account, no credit card, no API key. The priority list is live as soon as you open Canvas.
